Essence Fest: Your Beginner’s Guide [Video]

I gotta be honest, Girls Trip is the reason why I attended Essence Fest this year. I know, I know. How typical of me and the thousands of others to be inspired by celebrities’ endorsement of a 24-year-old festival (next year the 25th anniversary!). I’m late, but now I have arrived. And, it feels good. This is like your mama’s and grandma’s cookout with all the cousins, uncles, aunties, and unknown relatives coming together for a weekend. The only difference is, those cousins, uncles, and aunties are also celebrities that we admire. I’m talking about Janet Jackson, Queen Latifah, Brandy, Ashanti, Blackstreet, and much more. While I’m far from being a vet at the festival, as a first-time attendee, I wanted to share some insight for those still unsure if they should go or not.

Next year marks the 25th anniversary, and that means, Essence Fest is going to be bigger than ever. So count your coins, put them to the side and get ready for a year’s worth of planning and excitement. Pssst…I forgot some important tips in this video. Yes, I know…I was just too excited to make this one. Stay tuned. *Kisses*
