I haven’t shared this with you, but I don’t feel like myself anymore. Over the past year, I’ve gained over 20 pounds (really like 50). Truly, I don’t like what I see in the mirror and when I get up in the morning to get ready for work, my insecurities flood to the surface. I long to see a physically healthy Adriana and I’ve been struggling to get there once again. So, it was a no brainer when I was given the chance to receive an advanced copy of Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion.

Since receiving and reading the book, I’ve decided that I’m going to take reins over my mental and physical health and get back on track. Follow my journey over the next month, as I lose weight and make some much-needed lifestyle changes using Joel’s book and program.
Like Joel, I encountered many diets and strategies to shed weight and “keep it off.” Sometimes, I would engage in the unsustainable approach of eating the same thing every day for months, avoiding some of my favorite foods like it was the plague. Hunger would creep up on me at night. And, like most health and nutrition websites would state, it was forbidden to eat before bedtime. What’s surprising after reading Always Eat After 7 PM, we’ve been traditionally taught to avoid carbs, have an early dinner, and never eat before bed. But the fact is, the latest scientific research shows us this earlier model is not the most ideal.
Everything I THOUGHT I knew about health and dieting was suddenly destroyed.
As I kept reading through the first few chapters, Joel validated my feelings about dieting, the oftentimes struggle between what I want to eat versus what I “can’t” eat. He writes:
“Fact is, most diets are extremely narrow with regard to food choices and variety, and many even limit entire macronutrients altogether over the course of the entire program (think low-carb and low-fat diets). Three months with no carbs? No thanks. Such practices not only are entirely unnecessary but make for a miserable, unsustainable experience.”
Joel has a point. What I thought I knew over a 6-year period was false. Now, it’s time for me to un-learn my old habits and trained them into new ones. I’m so ready and I can’t wait to share with you what I learn and my journey to a healthier Adriana. If you’re down with the cause, stay tuned for next week’s post!
