I\u2019ve wanted to write this post since all hell broke loose two months ago in the U.S. and we began to transition into tighter restrictions and lockdown. With so many emotions running wild, it\u2019s only natural to use words like \u201cstuck\u201d or phrases like \u201cstuck at home\u201d to describe our current situation. But, those words seem wrong. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you look up the definition of stuck, it means \u201cXXXXX.\u201d When I think of stuck, I think about objects getting stuck together, glue being used, someone or something getting trapped in a small space, and\/or if you\u2019re \u201cstuck\u201d with someone or somewhere, it\u2019s because you don\u2019t really want to be there or can\u2019t get out. Like the movie, \u201cGet Out!\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soooo…these definitions and examples have negative connotations. And, it bugs me that we use this term to describe our current lifestyle and the pandemic, when at the end of the day, we should be grateful we have a home to go to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I won\u2019t get too preachy but I definitely want to highlight three ways why we should eliminate the word stuck during these times:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I don\u2019t know about you but I love going home. It\u2019s taken years to feel this way, but I\u2019ve created a space that breeds positivity, comfort, peace, and contentment. Growing up with five siblings isn\u2019t always easy with fights, arguments, and drama. And, now that I\u2019m an adult who can make her own decisions, the first thing I wanted to do was create a space that I always want to come home to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, when it\u2019s asked, \u201cWhat to do while stuck at home,\u201d I\u2019m saddened. Taking into consideration that everyone may not have a loving space or home, I can understand the sentiment of feeling \u201cstuck.\u201d Yet, some of you have a loving space\/home to do as you please. And, my challenge for you is, what can YOU do that makes your home feel inviting, fun, and \u201cunstuckable\u201d?? Not just during the coronavirus pandemic, but forever. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Here are some tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Leave the negativity and negative energy outside your home. <\/li>
Set the tone and good vibes for your space. <\/li>
Let natural light in. <\/li>
Play some music and dance freely. <\/li>
Create boundaries in your space and identify what you will or won\u2019t allow. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

<\/span>What about those without a home?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019m not here to make you feel guilty (well, a tiny bit) about your view of \u201cbeing stuck at home.\u201d But, the pandemic has affected us all, even those without jobs and a home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let me ask you a serious question\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Have you thought about the homeless population and how they are coping with the coronavirus?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Well, for the majority of you, you probably haven\u2019t. Let\u2019s take a look:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sticks and stones may break your bones,<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
but words can change your brain.<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Andrew Newberg, M.D. and Mark Robert Waldman, authors of \u201cWords Can Change Your Brain<\/a>,\u201d suggest that positive words help build your resiliency and ability to act, whereas negative or \u201chostile\u201d words increases stress-producing hormones and neurotransmitters that then \u201cshut down the logic-and-reasoning centers located in the frontal lobes.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Your words influence your brain and mindset. Whether you know it or not, using words like \u201cstuck\u201d is inadvertently sending negative messages to your brain and therefore influencing your mindset. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
